The Commons, Minneapolis, MN

Big Animal Productions LLC is proposing “The Liberty Assembly”, a mass art action, engaging 1000 people, utilizing their bodies and fabric design elements, in the composition of a rendering of Lady Liberty, on the grounds of The Commons, in downtown Minneapolis.

In addition to the artistic rendering, participants will stand in formation to form words, in the spirit of The New Colossus, by Emma Lazarus: “Bring my your tired, your poor, your weary”; “Immigrants Are Welcome Here”, etc.

The assembly will be documented from the air by drone and shared widely on-line, signaling to the World (and its authoritarians) that Minneapolis stands by its commitment to provide a place of refuge for immigrants fleeing war, poverty and oppression and those generally seeking a better life.

Big Animal Productions, and its associate artists, feels it is vital that we embrace and amplify the core American values of Equality and Liberty, for not only the citizens of this nation, but for the people of the World, as a whole.

We feel this action serves as a declaration of our right to claim this nation, and its core values, as our own and as a reminder to authoritarian leaders, here and abroad, that our commitment to an open and pluralistic democracy remains strong and resolute.
