Kaleidoscope of Love by artist @luttergardella at Powderhorn Park, Minneapolis.

1,000 neighbors gathered to create this spectacular piece, and we had joyful music from @brasssolidarity and the @singingresistancetc. This is community. This is #Minneapolis. 💜🦋💜

This inspiring human-powered mosaic was documented from above by artist-managed drones, courtesy of Big Animal Productions.

The unique gathering of participants and audience members offered an opportunity for neighbors from the region to connect, to heal and to persist with pride, strength and dignity as a community.

The Kaleidoscope of Love documentation sent a powerful message to the rest of the nation—and the world—that Minnesotans value beauty, compassion and communal care, and reject the continuing federal atrocities that have rendered lasting harm to our communities.

This celebration of compassion—a collaboration of community members led by Big Animal Productions—represents the community’s resilience and the power of public art to sustain attention on what matters most in this moment: The pursuit of justice is far from over.

According to the project’s artistic director, Christopher Lutter-Gardella, “This is a love poem to our community. Minnesotans value beauty, compassion and communal care, and reject the continuing federal atrocities that have rendered lasting harm. This event is intended to honor our resilience and sustain our ability to love and protect our neighbors.”

As artists, in this moment, we propose communal artmaking as an antidote to hate and the fear it engenders. Grateful to everyone who became a vibrant “brushstroke” in this massive mosaic. Let us show strength through beauty and amplify the call for an end to this madness, demanding justice for those who have been harmed, disappeared and murdered. We will persist with dignity, during this extraordinarily difficult time for our community and our nation.
